The Technical and Production Director of Semen Cardona, Xavier Barrera, participated in the XVIII Conference on Swine Genetic Improvement, held last Friday, March 10, to discuss the challenges of swine production.
The event was held at the Agro-Food, Forestry, and Veterinary Campus of the University of Lleida (UdL) and was part of the UdL Master in Pig Health and Production.
Specifically, Barrera participated in a discussion panel on “Breeding programs and the pig of the future,” moderated by Joan Estany, professor of Animal Genetic Improvement at the UdL. Together with them, Juan Manuel Herrero (PIC International Group), Galo Navarro (Andrimmer DNA Genetics), Josep Reixach (Selección Batallé) and Manuel Revilla (Hendrix Genetics).
The speakers discussed the current status of breeding programs, future trends, breeding objectives, evaluation methodologies, and practices for disseminating genetic progress.
