SEMEN CARDONA AND PIC TO COLLABORATE IN THE NEW AI STUD TARAZONA, IN SPAIN, TO HOLD 300 BOARS

Last Friday, September 15th, Semen Cardona and PIC signed a collaboration agreement for the new Tarazona AI stud, with a capacity for 300 boars. The works of the new stud have already begun.
tarazona

This ambitious project aims to exclusively host PIC boars in order to provide terminal sire, as well as GP and GGP dam line semen doses, of the highest quality, service and health control.

For PIC and Semen Cardona, to find the suitable location has been a key element of the project. The AI stud Tarazona, is located at the base of Moncayo Mountain. The site has been carefully selected, considering on the one hand, the ??low pig density in the area  to better preserve the health status of the boars,  and on the other hand, it has been taken into account the need for the stud to be logistically well connected to ensure the best delivery service at national and international level.
The stud design, with a capacity of 300 boars, reflects the experience accumulated by Semen Cardona in the construction of AI studs throughout its long experience. Maximum biosecurity measures, such as air filtration, to minimize the risk of disease transmission by air, have been incorporated as a critical element of the design, being health, a key topic for both companies: Semen Cardona and PIC.
Tarazona stud will have its own laboratory equipped with the latest technology to meet the strict production protocols of Semen Cardona. Considering the size of the stud, which will become the largest ever built by the Semen Cardona groupso far, the work of semen evaluation, packaging and quality control will be done in the laboratory of the stud itself.
As a novel element, it has been decided that the new stud will be energy self-sufficient through the installation of solar panels. This option arises, among other reasons, since the site is located in a highly isolated area, very far from any industrial activity or housing with connection to the electricity grid.
Mr. Pineda, Commercial Director of PIC Southern Europe and Ms. Angels Rial, Manager of Semen Cardona, as well as Mr. Jürgen Kramer, Director of PIC Europe and Mr. Jordi Coletas, Manager of Logistics and external markets, both participating in the drafting of the agreement, were present at the agreement signature.
The stud Tarazona is scheduled to go into production by mid-2018
