Success of the SC Conferences: The challenge of producing porcine semen doses amid a global threat
In the face of growing challenges in the swine industry, Semen Cardona has successfully hosted the SC Conferences, a series of technical meetings held in Vic and Lleida (Catalonia). This event brought together our clients and industry experts to discuss the strategies needed to ensure the production of high-quality semen doses amid emerging global threats.
The conferences featured specialists in animal health, reproduction, biosecurity, and production costs, who shared key insights into the industry’s present and future challenges. Throughout the event, several high-level technical presentations were delivered:
- PRRS: Same Virus, Different Nightmare – Dr. Carles Vilalta analyzed the impact of the PRRS virus on swine production and the most advanced strategies for its control.
- Mating Costs and Their Economic Impact – Agronomist Joan Rocadembosch explained how herd health directly affects farm profitability.
- Effective Biosecurity for the Modern Swine Industry – Dr. Jean Paul Cano outlined the essential pillars of effective biosecurity, including continuous training and systematic risk assessment.
- Biosecurity and Technology: The AI Center Revolution – Xavi Barrera, Semen Cardona’s Technical Director, reviewed the evolution of Artificial Insemination Centers and the necessary adaptations to meet new sanitary challenges.
Following the presentations, a roundtable discussion and debate provided an interactive platform where attendees and experts exchanged knowledge, experiences, and strategies to tackle the industry’s current challenges.
The event commenced with an opening speech by Maria Àngels Rial, President of Semen Cardona, and concluded with closing remarks from Jordi Coletas, CEO of Semen Cardona, reinforcing the company’s commitment to excellence and biosecurity.
