Councillor Òscar Ordeig visits Semen Cardona and addresses improvements to access on the Navàs–Cardona route along with other sector challenges

Semen Cardona welcomed the institutional visit of Òscar Ordeig i Molist, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Catalonia, to its main facilities. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the company’s activity first-hand and to share the main challenges facing the swine sector.

One of the central topics of the visit was the need to improve access to the area, particularly along the Navàs–Cardona route. This issue, considered strategic, affects not only Semen Cardona but also the wider business community in the region, as it directly impacts road safety, logistical efficiency and overall competitiveness.

During the visit, the Minister toured the facilities accompanied by the company’s Chairwoman, Maria Àngels Rial, and CEO, Jordi Coletas, together with other members of the team. Throughout the visit, the production processes for high-performance semen doses and the strict biosecurity protocols that define Semen Cardona’s operational model were presented.

The meeting also addressed other key sector issues, including concerns regarding African swine fever (ASF), highlighting the importance of strengthening prevention, surveillance and coordination measures to safeguard animal health and ensure the continuity of pig farming operations.

In addition, the need to streamline administrative procedures was discussed, with the aim of facilitating business activity and responding more effectively to the needs of a highly technical and constantly evolving sector.

The visit helped to reinforce direct dialogue between public administration and the industry, consolidating a collaborative framework to address current challenges and continue advancing the competitiveness, sustainability and quality of the swine sector.
